About Dr. DeFina
Meet our Chief Executive Officer/Chief Scientific Officer & Founder:
Dr. Philip DeFina
Dr. De Fina is a neuropsychologist and cognitive neuroscientist with over 40 years of experience. He served on the NYU faculty as an associate professor of neurology and psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine and the Bellevue Hospital Center. He worked as a forensic neuropsychologist at Mount Sinai-Elmhurst Hospital Medical Center and as an adjunct professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Maryland.
Dr. DeFina founded and was the first director of Fielding Graduate University’s Post-Doctoral Clinical Neuropsychology Training Program. Dr. DeFina later co-founded the Texas Woman’s University School Neuropsychology Training Program and the American Board Of School Neuropsychology. He was one of the original members of the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology.
Dr. DeFina has a long list of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, books, and book chapters to his credit. He served as the Principal Investigator in a number of notable research studies, including the recently completed Department of Defense Research Study on Severe Disorders of Consciousness and Coma Recovery.
Dr. DeFina is the Principal Investigator on a groundbreaking study that uses Stellate Ganglion Block Stimulation to treat chronic PTSD, postpartum depression, and menopausal symptoms. He worked as a research scientist and collaborator on the first PETT- Schizophrenia Study at NYU-Brookhaven National Laboratory. He has created neuropsychological psychometric tests for ADHD, Memory Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Aging Brain Disorders. His passion for unraveling the mysteries of the brain has been and continues to be his driving force in life.
Dr. DeFina was also honored and privileged to serve as a soldier in the US Army. He worked as a Special Agent in Counterintelligence at Fort Meade, MD, after serving at Fort Huachuca and Fort Belvoir. He supported counter-terrorism and special operations at ISA (DoD), HUMINT, and DIA.
